Date: Feb. 26, 2009 On Thursday February 26, 2009 I received a call from Senator John Ensign’s office, Nevada. It was in reference to a letter I wrote about the Monsanto Corporation, the people that make genetically modified seeds and then use questionable tactics on getting their seeds out to the farmers of the world. Getting back to my conversation with a very nice lady named Paulette in Senator Ensign’s office: She told me that there could be no legislative action or actions while a lawsuit was pending with Monsanto as one of the involved parties, as this would appear as though Senator Ensign, or someone in his office was trying to influence the court. I perfectly understand this since she explained it, and have no problem with it, for it is part of the rules of ethics. She was nice enough to even ask if I wanted someone from the Agricultural Department to call and talk to me. (Yes...I know, Ensign's ethics leave much to be desired at the moment.) But my thought is this: Monsanto has had a lawsuit going against one farmer or another for years. And in one class action case, farmers are suing Monsanto. Is Monsanto making sure there is always a legal case going to keep senators and congress people from investigating them? Our elected officials cannot even make an innocent inquiry into Monsanto without it being perceived as trying to influence the courts! Can a state district attorney investigate them? Can a federal district attorney investigate them? Can the Agricultural Department investigate them? Anyone have an anser to that? I could not find one. H. Gritts |
Aug. 20, 2009 Have you ever heard of Monsanto Corporation? If not, you need to know what this corporation does and why they do it. Monsanto also makes genetically modified seeds. These seeds are what farmers plant, and we eat the food grown from these seeds. You may even have been hearing more about genetically modified foods, and the controversy surrounding them. Aug. 20, 2009 Here is a report from the New York Times on how independent studies into genetically modified seeds are being stopped.
Biotechnology companies are keeping university scientists from fully researching the effectiveness and environmental impact of the industry’s genetically modified crops, according to an unusual complaint issued by a group of those scientists. |
